The Story So Far

Where It All Began

Long before the studio…
Long before the songs…
There was a frozen backyard, a hockey stick, and a kid growing up in Canada.

I didn’t know it then, but the places we grow up and the moments we live have a way of finding their way into the songs we write years later.

Every song has a beginning.
This was mine.

Every song begins somewhere.

I was born to parents whose roots stretched from Liverpool, England, to small-town Canada. Growing up, I found myself between two very different musical worlds.

My older brother, nine years my senior, unknowingly became one of my first musical influences. Through him, I discovered artists like Lou Reed, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, and even Black Sabbath. Their songwriting, creativity, and willingness to push boundaries left a lasting impression.

My father pulled me in a different direction. His soundtrack was classic country—Marty Robbins, Hank Williams Sr., and the timeless storytellers whose songs painted vivid pictures of everyday life. Between those two worlds, I learned to appreciate both honest storytelling and memorable melodies.

Music eventually became more than something I listened to—it became something I lived. Over the years, I spent time playing worship at my church, where I learned that the most powerful songs aren’t always the loudest or the most complicated. They’re the ones that connect with people on a personal level.

Today, that’s still the music I strive to write.

Whether it’s reflecting on where we’ve been, celebrating where we come from, or finding hope in where we’re headed, every song begins with something real. Family. Home. Faith. Friendship. The places that shape us. The moments that stay with us.

If one of my songs reminds you of your own story, then I’ve accomplished exactly what I set out to do.

“The best songs don’t tell you what to feel. They remind you of something you’ve already lived.” — Ian McIvor
